The LinkedIn banner size for a personal profile is 1584 × 396 pixels (a 4:1 ratio), saved as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB, according to LinkedIn’s help page Add or change the cover image on your profile. For a company page, the cover image is 1512 × 256 pixels, PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB, as listed in LinkedIn’s Image specifications for your LinkedIn Pages.

To get any photo to one of these sizes, open it in the Social Media Image Resizer, keep the preset LinkedIn profile banner — 1584 × 396 (or pick the company cover), and download. The image is resized and cropped in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and the result is a JPG at the exact pixel size LinkedIn recommends.

LinkedIn image sizes at a glance

LinkedIn now calls the profile banner the “cover image”; it used to be called the background photo. These are the values from LinkedIn’s own help pages, checked in October 2026.

Image Size (pixels) Ratio Format and limit Source
Profile cover image (banner) 1584 × 396 (recommended) 4:1 JPG or PNG, under 8 MB LinkedIn Help: profile cover image
Company page cover image 1512 × 256 (minimum and recommended) about 5.9:1 PNG or JPEG, 3 MB max LinkedIn Help: Page image specifications
Company page logo 400 × 400 (recommended), 268 × 268 minimum 1:1 PNG or JPEG, 3 MB max same page
Career Pages Life tab main image 1128 × 376 3:1 PNG or JPEG, 3 MB max same page
Page post image with a link 1200 × 627 1.91:1 more than 200 px wide same page

The banner is very wide and very short. A normal landscape photo is 3:2 or 4:3, so turning it into a 4:1 banner always removes a large part of its height. Pick an image whose subject sits in a horizontal band in the middle: a skyline, a desk, a landscape, a row of products. A portrait of a person almost never works.

How to make a LinkedIn banner at the right size

  1. Open the Social Media Image Resizer and choose your image (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and others; paste and drag-and-drop work too).
  2. Leave Size on LinkedIn profile banner — 1584 × 396, or choose LinkedIn company cover — 1512 × 256.
  3. Choose the Fit:
    • Fill and crop (no bars) scales the image to cover the whole banner and trims what sticks out, keeping the center.
    • Fit whole image (adds bars) keeps the entire image and fills the empty space with the Bar color you choose, useful for a logo or a wide graphic on a solid color.
  4. Download the JPG, then on LinkedIn open your profile, use the edit (camera) icon on the cover area, and upload it.

The crop is centered. If the part you want to keep is near the top or bottom of the photo, crop it roughly to a wide strip first, or check how much room you have with the Aspect Ratio Calculator: enter a ratio of 4 by 1 and a width, and it gives the matching height. For example, a 4000-pixel-wide photo gives a 1000-pixel-tall 4:1 strip.

Safe zones: the profile photo and mobile cropping

LinkedIn states on its help page that “how your image appears may change based on the size of your web browser window and screen resolution.” It does not publish an official safe zone, but two things are easy to verify on any profile:

  • The profile photo covers the lower-left part of the banner. On desktop the round photo overlaps the bottom left of the banner; in the mobile app it also overlaps the bottom of the banner, at a position and scale that differ from desktop. Anything placed in the lower part, especially on the left, such as a logo or a line of text, risks ending up hidden behind your face.
  • The visible part changes with the screen. The banner is shown at a different scale and proportion on a wide monitor, a narrow window and a phone, so the edges are not guaranteed to be visible everywhere.

Practical rules that follow from this:

Area of the 1584 × 396 banner What to put there
Lower left quarter Nothing important (hidden by the profile photo)
Center and right half, vertically centered Text, logo, tagline
Outer edges (a few percent on each side) Background only
Whole banner A calm image or color that still looks right when partly cropped

Keep text large: the banner appears much smaller on a phone than on a desktop monitor, and fine print becomes unreadable. After uploading, open your profile on a phone and in a narrow desktop window to check that nothing important is cut.

Common LinkedIn banner problems

The banner looks blurry. The image was probably smaller than 1584 × 396 and LinkedIn enlarged it, or it was saved at low quality. LinkedIn’s help page suggests choosing an image with a larger file size if the result looks blurry or pixelated. Start from a large original, resize to the exact size, and keep the JPG quality high (the resizer’s quality slider defaults to 0.92).

Upload fails or the file is too large. The profile banner must be under 8 MB and a company page cover under 3 MB. A 1584 × 396 JPG is normally far below both. If yours is bigger, run it through Compress Image.

The format isn’t accepted. LinkedIn lists JPG and PNG. If your file is HEIC from an iPhone, or WebP saved from a website, the resizer reads it and saves a JPG anyway. Our guides explain HEIC vs JPG and why images save as WebP.

The text is cut off on mobile. Move it toward the center and away from the lower left, and make it bigger. Test on a phone before you consider the banner finished.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a LinkedIn banner?

LinkedIn recommends 1584 × 396 pixels for the cover image (banner) on a personal profile, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. That is a 4:1 ratio, four times wider than tall.

What size is a LinkedIn company page cover image?

LinkedIn's help page on Page image specifications gives 1512 × 256 pixels as both the minimum and the recommended size, PNG or JPEG, 3 MB maximum. The Page logo is recommended at 400 × 400 pixels.

Why is my LinkedIn banner cropped on my phone?

The banner is shown at different sizes depending on the screen and the window width, and the profile photo is drawn over its lower-left part. Keep text and logos away from the edges and from the lower left, and check your profile in the mobile app after uploading.

Why does my LinkedIn banner look blurry?

Usually because the image was smaller than 1584 × 396 and LinkedIn enlarged it, or because it was heavily compressed. Start from a larger image, resize it to the exact size, and keep the JPG quality high.

Can I use the same image for my profile and my company page?

Not without cropping. The profile banner is 4:1 and the page cover is about 6:1, so the same design loses part of its height on the company page. Make two versions from the same source image.
