Why convert SVG to PNG
SVG is ideal for logos, icons and illustrations: it is made of shapes, not pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. But many places don’t accept it — social networks, most email clients, office documents, marketplaces and older apps all want a bitmap. PNG is the natural choice because, like SVG, it supports transparent backgrounds and keeps sharp edges without compression artifacts. JPG would blur thin lines and text and can’t store transparency at all.
Pick the right size
Because an SVG is a drawing, the converter redraws it at the size you choose rather than enlarging a small bitmap. A 4x PNG is just as crisp as a 1x one.
| Output size | Result for a 640 × 427 SVG | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| 1x | 640 × 427 px | The size defined in the file |
| 2x (default) | 1280 × 854 px | Websites and apps on Retina / HiDPI screens |
| 4x | 2560 × 1708 px | Print, presentations, large displays |
| Custom width | Any width up to 8,192 px | An exact size asked for by a platform |
The base size comes from the SVG’s width and height attributes, or from its viewBox when those are missing (512 pixels when neither exists). The list next to the preview shows the final pixel size of every file before you download.
Background: transparent or colored
By default the PNG keeps a transparent background, shown as a checkerboard in the preview. That’s what you want for a logo placed over other content. If the image will be used where transparency shows up as black or looks odd, uncheck the option and choose a background color — white for documents, or your brand color.
Several files at once
Select or drop several SVG files to convert them together. They all use the same size and background settings; click a file in the list to preview it. Download then saves one PNG per file in a single ZIP, each named after its SVG (logo.svg becomes logo.png).
Next steps
- Need a favicon? Convert the PNG with PNG to ICO to get a multi-size
.icofile. - Need a smaller file without transparency? Turn the PNG into a JPG with PNG to JPG.
- Want rounded corners on an app icon? Use Round Corners Image.
Private by design
The SVG is read and drawn by your browser on your device; nothing is uploaded and the page keeps working offline once loaded. Browsers draw SVG files in a restricted image mode that doesn’t run scripts or fetch external resources, so converting an SVG from an unknown source does not run any code it contains — and it also means linked fonts and images aren’t included.
